Miracle on 34th Street - The Movie

Is there anyone out there who has NOT seen the original movie *Miracle on 34th Street*? Released in 1947 the movie answers the age old question - "is there a Santa Claus?" Of course there is! It begins with the famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade where Santa Claus makes his first appearance. He then is hired by Macy's Department Store to be their seasonal Santa Claus. Of course the owners of Macy's think he is a bit too real, thus the trouble begins. I won't give away anymore details in case there is someone out there who missed this movie.
Santa is played by Edmund Gwenn who is excellent in the part, being the perfect Santa. He wins the Academy Award that year for Best Supporting Actor.
Maureen O'Hara plays Doris Walker, Macy's Event Director. She is not a fan of Christmas and has raised her small daughter, Susan, played by Natalie Wood as a non-believer. The love interest is the new next door neighbor Fred Gailey played by John Payne whom I wrote about in my previous blog. I think you can see where this story goes...wonderful Christmas theme, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Macy's NYC store all decorated for the holidays, throw in Kris Kringle, a love story and the beautiful Natalie Wood as the child actress. All this is a recipe for a heart warming family movie. It is a classic you can see on television every holiday season and if you haven't seen it, sit down and watch. I think you'll find it totally enjoyable.
The vintage clothing you will see is fabulous. Maureen O'Hara wears them well and looks like a million dollars. Anyone who appreciates anything old will find something in the movie to admire and drool over.
