The Missing Link and other Evolutionary Tales
December 16, 2011 - 5:46pm
It might surprise you to know this was one of my tamer dreams. Probably like yourself, some I blow off, some are so packed full of adventure I beg my subconscious for a repeat engagement and some I have learned through the years keep knocking until you somehow resolve the mystery of it all. My dreams have predicted illness’s and deaths of those closest to me. They have also guided me to just the right places, at just the right times. So the question became how to unravel this seemingly impossible puzzle? I will start at the end and work backward. What I uncovered was cash and jewelry. I gave some thought to what age I would have been to be in that Woolworths dining counter. Somewhere between seven and eleven and definitely back East. Frequently dropped off by one or both of my working parents or taking solo fearless adventurous rides on my trusted bicycle. I visualized the people around me and remember what they looked like then. I see my brothers with there chino pants and pompadours. I see my Dad who was a beautician cutting their hair in order to have just that right look. I remember my dad’s full wavy thick black hair. I remember thinking he was the most handsome man in the world and then I realized James Garner was my Dad in this dream. He’s been gone for over two years and has helped me before but never in a dream like this. It’s so like him to be cryptic and unusual. He was never one to just say a thing, it was always with some wry panache. So, now to figure out how it might connect to anything. Well, not only is my dad still in a urn in his closest, so are all of his clothes. There are Tons of cloth. Not a one of us in my family has been up to the task of getting rid of or giving them away. I now felt compelled to look in his pants pockets! Daunting and doubtful as he died without a proverbial pot to piss in. After a while, with no success other then some receipts from high end places like the 99 cent store, I began instead to look in his shirt pockets, the ones with animal and Hawaiian prints. There on a hanger with a tiger shirt and piggy back shared pants underneath I found cash and a 14k gold link bracelet, which is why I titled this, 'the missing link and other evolutionary tales'. Delighted and exhausted I stopped looking. I walked away knowing had I not paid attention odds where great that some very lucky fellow browsing a thrift store some time from now would have gotten a most wonderful surprise. I don’t even want to imagine the message from beyond on that scenario. One of the messages here is never stop believing. Never stand in your own way no matter how off the wall or out of the box something appears at first blush. Never give up on your dreams. They can guide you to exactly where you’d most love to be. PS, while I don’t look a thing like Fran Lebowitz I admire here wit and intelligence. Mostly I admire her the world can take a flying leap attitude. I’m grateful she pitched in.
