Harry Rinker on Recent Changes in the Auction Marketplace and the Improving Economy

Have you noticed any recent changes in the auction marketplace?

Change is constant in all segments of the antiques and collectibles marketplace. The auction arena is no exception.

Devotionals of Faith

My foray in religious collectibles began serendipitously! Years ago, at an awesome estate sale, whilst waiting to look inside the glass cases, I happened upon a box of religious medallions. Examining the contents of the box, the beauty of the vintage medals captivated and intrigued me; the lot of treasured medals was happily purchased!

Evolution of an Antique Dealer - Hoarder or Inventory Manager?

I won't kid you - I'm overweight. Who isn't? From as little as 10 pounds to as much as 200 pounds! Guess that's why we're considered the fattest society ever. So much for the 'good life'. Relative to that thought - a funny thing happened to me recently...

Springtime Brings Country Auctions

When I walk to the mailbox, I find seed catalogs and auction flyers. The days are longer with flowers blooming and robins are building nests. The outdoor country auctions are my favorites and a source of new glassware and primitives.

Tesserae - These Tiny Glass Tiles Can Tell Stories

I am fond of all types of Italian jewelry. It is steeped in history and romance and the end result is often breathtaking. One style which is particularly appealing is mosaic jewelry. It is not only lovely, but it also has a story to tell that is very visible in the jewelry item itself.

Mosaics are made of small glass tiles. These tiles are called tesserae. When combined together, they can form an image - as simple as a flower, or as intricate as a building architectural scene.

International Shipping - What I have learnt

Shipping anywhere, even locally is arguably the most 'dangerous' part of our trade. International shipping however is in its own league. It is cause for such anxiety and fear among some dealers that many I know, in the continental USA, will not ship abroad, period. I have found though that most of the stress, pain and suffering can indeed be minimized and this blog will try to explain how.
