A Variety of Cabochons for Vintage Jewelry

"This lovely Pin from Sarah Coventry is called Strawberry Fesival. It has dimpled red cabochons which look just like strawberries."

When you browse for vintage jewelry and look at the description, you may find that the seller of the piece of jewelry refers to cabochons, commonly known as "cabs." Have you ever wondered what these are or thought what does a taxi cab have to do with vintage jewelry?

Spring Fever

Boy, has it been a long winter here on the cape (Cape Cod, Ma.). It was only 38 degrees all day today. But still,  there are signs of spring outside, a few daffodils and some lilies starting to show. We often don't get much of a spring here, but occasionally it does happen. Around here we usually just roll right into summer.

Everyone Loves Jewelry - Why?

I noticed something the other day. Whenever I dress to go anywhere at all, I always wear earrings and a ring, or two. Even if it’s just to walk the dog, or run out to the supermarket, I do slip on my wedding ring. I have four wedding rings mostly modest, one with a diamond a friend gave to my husband when his dad, a jeweler, passed.

Rinker's Opinion: Do you think there are collectors who will never be online? Why?

Information in the antiques and collectibles trade is based more on individual guesstimates rather than documented quantitative data. Simply put, it is impossible to state without doubt or dispute what is and is not true regarding the operating methodology of the business. One man’s (yes, I know the politically correct term is “person’s”) view is exactly that – one man’s view. Agree or disagree as you will.

Antiques From the Past Are Tried and True

A few days ago my 9 year old great niece told me that her school teacher had the class chew peppermint gum before their weekly spelling list test. I said, "What?! Are you sure?!" She said, "Sure I'm sure!" I told her in my day if you got caught with gum, you either had to have enough for the whole class, or you had to walk up in front of everybody and spit it out in the garbage can!
