My very favorite female comedian is the wonderful Gilda Radner, original member of the Not Ready for Prime Time Players. She was one of the greatest comic geniuses of the 20th century being compared with such greats as Lucille Ball. Saturday Night Live premiered on October 11, 1975 as NBC’s Saturday Night. The cast consisted of Laraine Newman, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris and Chevy Chase.
The planter wasn’t a Rookwood or a Haviland or a Royal Doulton. It did not cost $5,000. or $350.00. It was a silly little planter with a huge trout being caught by a little fly fisherman. It of course was vintage and most people might not even look at it twice. It cost just sixteen dollars, not much for a seller to make on one a purchase. I wanted it for a door prize for a fly fishing club banquet fund raiser.
My garden is still and snow-covered, but the backyard bird feeder is a hub of activity. We see woodpeckers, sparrows, juncos and titmice, but the most colorful and easily recognizable birds are the brilliant red cardinals.
One of the challenges of an online doll business is navigating the sometimes frightening world of having to ship your dolls via UPS or Canada Post or whomever you happen to be using. No matter who the carrier is, you can be certain that your package and hence your “doll” will not always be treated gently.
Early in my selling endeavors I purchased a small sterling basket charm with a porcelain top that depicted the Sphinx and pyramids. Once home I was surprised to find that the charm opened to reveal a tiny gold baby tucked in the cotton inside—Baby Moses!
There were several auctions in this area, years ago, that were a weekly event. Every Thursday many people, including myself, went to the auction that was held in a huge old factory building. Due to the size of the building, the auctioneer was able to rent space for a flea market, a snack bar, and also have a huge display area for items that would be offered in future auctions.
