News From Ruby Lane - July 2009

We are pleased to announce some exciting updates to the Ruby Lane site, as well as a few additional announcements you won’t want to miss. As always, these updates are designed to further improve both the buying and selling experience for users. Read on for the latest improvements to Ruby Lane.

Mega Menu Updates
Our main pull-down menus under Shop Sell and Relax have a completely new look! These new “mega menus” have been designed in Web 2.0 and are much more dynamic looking, better organized, and easier on the eye than the previous format. Be sure to check them out for all your shopping, selling and relaxing tools.

New Search Layouts
We have also redesigned our Search layouts to make them easier on the eye. Both “List” and “Gallery” mode have a brand new, more upscale look and feel while still maintaining a layout that makes it easy to view and shop for items.

New “Condition” Field
We have added a new “Condition” field to all item pages. This is designed to meet new Google Search data feed requirements, which will help shoppers find your products more easily through updated product attributes. The attribute options are “New”, “Used”, and “Refurbished”. These options are those specifically required by Google Search. If you do not set the condition for your items yourself, it will automatically default to “Used” if the item is an antique or collectible. For artisan jewelry items, new fine art and new books it will automatically default to “New”.

Google Analytics Added To Reports
We want to let shops know that Ruby Lane now supports Google Analytics tracking! Once set up, Google Analytics offers a wide selection of visitor tracking reports for your individual shop. To use it you’ll first need to set it up within your shop. To do so go to your shop’s Weblog Statistics under Reports on your Shop Owners Home. You’ll see the instructions for setup at the top of the page.

Updated Flagging System
We are pleased to announce a streamlining of the Ruby Lane Flagging Program. The most important change to affect shops is that from now on Ruby Lane staff will vet all flags before a shop sees them. All flags now come to staff who decide whether they have merit. If they do, the shop that was flagged receives an email. If not, the shop that flagged the item gets an email and loses a flag.

New Laminated Four-Color Totes Added to the Logo Shop!
We have just added beautiful new laminated four-color totes to the Ruby Lane Logo Shop. These jumbo-sized totes are durable and great for giving to customers in orders, in your brick and mortar shop or at shows. They are made of recycled materials and are available in both very small and very large quantities, depending on your needs. They’re priced affordably as well.

Spaces Available September Maine Antique Digest Ad
We want to let all shops know that there are spaces available in the September 2009 Maine Antique Digest ad. We would like to get this ad filled very soon so that we can begin production. These ads are a great way to put your shop in front of tens of thousands of additional antiques and collectibles enthusiasts. For more information or to sign up go to Shop Participatory Ads under Selling Successfully from your shop owners home page. Scroll down to the September Maine Antique Digest ad and click on a space to reserve it. Once reserved, there are no refunds.

Despite the continued economic slump, we at Ruby Lane are experiencing a very good year and we know that many of our shops, and buyers are, too. As always, if you have questions about any of these updates or if we can assist you in any way, we invite you to contact us using the Help tool found on the top right of any page on the Ruby Lane site. For those who prefer it, Live Chat is also available.

Best regards,
The Ruby Lane Team
