Digital Library for the Decorative Arts and Material Culture The Digital Library for the Decorative Arts and Material Culture collects and creates electronic resources for study and research of the decorative arts, with a particular focus on Early America. Included are electronic texts and journals, image databases, and information on organizations, museums and research facilities. Made possible by the Chipstone Foundation, the site was created and is maintained at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries.
Index of American Design The Index of American Design consists of approximately 18,000 watercolor renderings of American decorative arts objects from the colonial period through the nineteenth century. Produced between 1935 and 1942, this visual archive reflects the expanding interest in American material culture that began to emerge at that time. Old Salem Online Contains two searchable databases: The Craftsman Database and The Library Database. The Craftsman Database's purpose is to collect and make accessible data on the lives and working habits of southern artisans working prior to 1821 by collecting documentary evidence found in newspapers, city directories, court records and private papers. The Library for Old Salem and MESDA contains books, manuscripts, journals, videos, maps, and microfilm. These materials support research in Moravian, local and southern history, the decorative arts, and museum studies.
